For those of you who don’t know me, the Wilmot Warrior Weekend is particular meaningful for me as I am a cancer survivor. When I was 27 years old, mere weeks after returning from my honeymoon, I was having trouble swallowing. After completing an endoscopy, the doctors found I had Stage 2 cancer of the esophagus. The size of the tumor and location meant it likely had spread to nearby lymph nodes and so like many others I was terrified of the prognosis. After completing a couple of months of daily radiation and weekly chemotherapy at Wilmot, I had a surgery to remove half of my stomach, nearly all of my esophagus, and all of the lymph nodes in my chest and surrounding areas.
I am happy to say that it has been 11 years this August since my original diagnosis and I am healthy as an ox (maybe a little chubbier, but hey I’ll take it). I am not sure anything my family has today, which has grown by two, would’ve been possible without my team of amazing doctors and nurses at the Wilmot Cancer Institute.
Will you consider donating to our team (or happy to have others join and come out for the day) to help others facing cancer now and in the future? See below for the link to the Team page and thank you in advance!
