2016 Warrior Walk: Celebrating Life Beyond Cancer

The Monarchs

Welcome to the teams page!

Cancer has touched my life in so many ways, and I'm sure it's somehow touched yours as well. Unfortunately the odds of knowing someone who had cancer are incredibly high. I am a cancer survivor and so is my grandma, and I am so proud of us!

I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (tongue cancer in non medical terms) April 7th, 2014. On April 21st 2014 I had 1/3 of my tongue removed to remove the cancer. It was an extremely tough healing process; both emotionally and physically. Some days I didn't know if I could do it anymore, but I knew I had to. I knew I had to be strong for my family, friends, and other people who I hoped to inspire. It was a dark time in my life, but so much good came from my diagnosis and experience. I named my team The Monarchs because butterflies go through a huge life changing transformation, and they come out even more beautiful than before. I am a monarch, and I am a survivor.

I am proud to join the fight against cancer. Each year, thousands are diagnosed with cancer. By coming together, the community can make a difference for all those cancer impacts. Wilmot Cancer Institute will host the 4th annual Wilmot Warrior Walk Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Highland Park in Rochester. The event includes a 5K, 10K and 1-mile walk as well as fun activities during the post-race celebration. Proceeds support the Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program and cancer research efforts at Wilmot Cancer Institute. Show your support by joining me at the Wilmot Warrior Walk or giving a donation today!
