2024 Stroll for Strong Kids and 5K

Kenna's Fight

Makenna "Kenna" Dadey was 13 years old and an 8th grader at the Gates Chili Middle School.  On January 10, 2017 she died by suicide from her attempt two days after Christmas. We spent those 2 weeks by her side in the PICU at Strong. Even though the outcome was not what we had hoped for we know she got the best care possible from the caring staff at Strong.  We are just devastated by her loss.  She was a shining star in our lives and still is.

Suicide is the SECOND leading cause of death for ages 10-24 years old.

Each day in the United States, there are an average of over 3703 attempts by young people grades 9-12.  Almost 20 % of students seriously considered an attempt according to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

I didn’t realize these numbers were so high until it was too late for my family and I.

Suicide rates increased 60% since 2011 among youth and young adults the CDC reports.
