Madilynn was born at 35 weeks, lifeless after losing nearly all of her blood. Golisano Children’s Hospital’s NICU sent a team via ambulance to come and transport her to them. This is where she spent the next 5 weeks.
Madi had sustained a brain injury; hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, as well as a many other medical complications due to the lack of blood/oxygen supply. The odds were against her. She was cooled for only 12 hours due to complications, most of her organs had been damaged, she received 29 transfusions total, and was on a ventilator for 3 weeks, high flow for the first 13 days.
Thanks to the knowledge & persistence of the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and ALL involved in Madi’s critical care nearly 5 years ago she is absolutely thriving.
As a result of Madilynn’s brain injury, she has developmental delays, spastic cerebral palsy, and continues to see specialists through GCH regularly. Most recently having tibial surgery with pediatric orthopedics, in hopes she’ll be able to walk independently.
With all the said, nothing holds her back! Madi lights up any room she enters with her contagious smile. She feels so deeply and has so much compassion towards others. Her drive and determination to overcome any obstacle is truly inspirational.
There are no words for the amount of gratitude we have for Golisano Children’s Hospital, modern medicine, and more specifically Dr. Dylag.
