Many of you know that becoming parents was our life-long dream. It took over 4 years, but with all of you rooting for us, we finally received our greatest gift on March 28th 2022, with the birth of Emmie and Otis. When you become a parent to twins, you expect them to do everything together, but this isn’t always the case. We learned this early when our sweet son, Otis had to be admitted to Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Otis was born with an unanticipated Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia and taken to GCH by an incredible transport team after he was stabilized in what we’d soon learn was a very grim situation. Unable to breathe or eat on his own, and with the odds stacked against him, we knew that in addition to all of the love and prayers in the world, Otis needed round-the-clock care beyond what we ever could have imagined.
From the moment the team from GCH arrived, our entire family was handled with such care. They took a situation that was so difficult for us and guided us through each moment, managing our expectations but also showing compassion every step of the way. They took time and answered our questions day and night and made sure we never felt alone in what was a complicated and delicate process. The care we received allowed us to be wherever we needed to be, including with Otis's twin sister Emmie and to manage the day to day of being new parents far from home while remaining confident that Otis was in the best hands. We were all in the hands of the incredible NICU team at Galisano.
After only 5 weeks at Galisano, Otis was able to leave the hospital, and we were able to return home as a family. To this very day, we stay in touch with staff who have touched our lives and will remain in our hearts forever. They saved Otis’s life and he in turn, together with his sister are our greatest gift.
