Welcome back to Gretchen's Gang!!! It's been a few years since in person events have taken place, but here we are ready to go. Why do I participate? Well, Golisano Children's Hospital, has become near and dear to my family since 2013 (but actually much longer with my oldest sister, Cynthia) when the Doctors, Nurses and everyone in between saved my then two year old Gretchen. For those of you who don't know ... she was sick from Ecoli, Ecoli which lead to an illness called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, or HUS for short. Ecoli caused her tiny little Kidneys to shut down. Ecoli that caused her to be dehydrated, and have diarrhea, barely any urine, poor appetite and complete lethargy. Lifelessness, as it was described. Ecoli that brought in multiple Blood Transfusions, Urinalysis', daily Blood Work and the scariest of all ... three rounds of Dialysis. Where did she contract her Ecoli, you may wonder? We'd like to know too. Her case was not part of an outbreak, not even another to be heard of. I owe this Hospital more than I could ever begin to repay. I raise these funds and participate in this 5k and stroll to give back everything I can for this Hospital. Medicine is constantly changing, research is ongoing, and with that always a hefty price tag. This is my part to help. Please, if you can, support my cause, and not just for Gretchen, who I am happy to report has been fortunate with her recovery, under Doctor supervision for several years, but also for the other children and their families who are still fighting their good fight. Thank you and wish us luck :)
The annual Stroll for Strong Kids Walk and 5K Run will be held on June 4, 2022, where Golisano Children's Hospital supporters will enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere full of activities.
