I’ve always been a huge supporter of Golisano Children’s Hospital and I’ve always asked you to consider your donation an “insurance” should you or someone you know ever need the services offered by the region’s only children’s hospital, which provides care for thousands of children in Rochester and the surrounding 17-county Finger Lakes region.
In January of 2016, my family reaped the benefit of having Golisano Children’s Hospital in our community!! My niece, Leah, was diagnosed with a rare Congenital Heart Defect called ALCAPA (Anomalous Left Coronary Artery arising from the Pulmonary Artery). This rare congenital cardiac anomaly occurs at an incidence of 1 in 300,000 live births.
On January 4, 2016, Leah underwent lifesaving heart surgery at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Leah received excellent care during her 11 day stay at the hospital and will continue to receive follow up care. If it wasn’t for Golisano Children’s Hospital, my niece would have had to have surgery in Boston or Philadelphia. I cannot express the relief knowing that she was so close to home, myself and my family could visit when we wanted and my brother and sister in law could continue alternating work days once Leah was in stable condition. All of those things that you don’t think about until you’re faced with it!
