2020 Warrior Walk: Celebrating Life Beyond Cancer

Team Robbins Strong

On February 6th, 2018, my world was turned upside down when, after about 30 hours of testing in the emergency room, I was finally brought to Wilmot Cancer Center and diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 22. I'm often asked about how hard that moment was for me; hearing the words "you have cancer", being told that I would spend the next 2.5 years receiving chemotherapy, and all of the challenges I faced along the way. Although I faced so many hardships, the first memories that always come to mind are about all of the compassion and support that I felt from every doctor, nurse, and staff member at Wilmot-- how the doctor who diagnosed me kept repeating "but remember, this is curable" when he broke the news to me and my family... the nurses who made me feel at home while I was living inpatient for a month, taking me on late night visits to the cafeteria, and shaving my head when my hair began to fall out... the infusion center nurses and staff who made me smile during every appointment, surprising me with a cake for my birthday and a celebration at every milestone during my treatment... I could go on and on for hours about just how incredible my experience at Wilmot has been (and continues to be!) Thanks to Wilmot, the most difficult years of my life were made just a bit easier.

I'm beyond thankful for Wilmot and all that this amazing institution does for our community and the world. Please join me and Team Robbins Strong during this years Warrior Walk to give back to Wilmot, with proceeds supporting the Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program and cancer research efforts at Wilmot Cancer Institute.

Thank YOU! #RobbinsStrong
