Friends, the Warrior Walk is this coming weekend, September 12 and 13. Thanks to all of you, Team Olney has now raised over $16,600 for leukemia and lymphoma research. This is a HUGE accomplishment. Thank you so very much. Bev and I just received the following note from Mike Fahy, Assistant Vice President of Advancement. THIS IS FOR ALL OF YOU
I am very excited to share the attached Impact Report for you and Bev, as well as the members of Team Olney. We truly cannot thank you enough for the impact you’ve had, though we hope what you’ll see and read here starts to capture the importance of investments, such as yours, in cancer research. Your generosity has had a profound effect on our Blood Cancer Research Program, and we are truly grateful for ALL that you do. Please know that, in addition to your philanthropic support, which has been substantial, we also enjoy working with you as the Chair of the Warrior Walk Committee (yes, even in a pandemic! :), as a role model of engagement among your fellow WCI Advisory Board Members, as a vocal advocate in the effort to raise awareness about the impact of our faculty and staff, and in myriad ways that I couldn’t possibly capture here as completely as I would like. I know that Stephanie and I also feel incredibly grateful for the friendships we have with you and Bev, and your family, and feel privileged to work beside all of you to accomplish our goal of supporting Wilmot.
I am eager to hear your feedback about the piece, to share it with several of our colleagues who helped pull this together in meaningful ways. It would be great to share your reaction with them, as their work is often ‘behind the scenes.’
Thank you again for EVERYTHING you do,
I will send out the impact statement in a seperate e mail. Basically it says that "During the last seven years, the Blood cancer research program has received more than $11M in grant funding from external sources, due in large part to the investment of generous donors" This means all of you.
There is still time to walk and consider a donation. Every dollar raised generates about $50 in grant funding. Imagine if your investments could generate this kind of return.
We leave you with these thoughts sent to us by Rhona Henry who is the Supervising Nurse in the Blood and Marrow transplant unit and our good friend: "But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. . . . For when I am weak, then I am strong."
—2 Corinthians 12:9–10
God Bless you all....You are making a difference in the lives of many cancer patients...Team Olney.

The Warrior Walk is only 27 days away. The Walk will be held on September 12 and 13. Team Olney has raised over $14,600 to date for the Wilmot Cancer Institute. Please share any photos you have so we can include them in the Warrior Walk Website. This will be the last Post before the Walk.
Last week, Beverly and I had a call with the Dr. Calvi. She is leading the leukemia and lymphoma research investigation that was started as a result of donations from Team Olney over the years. She was excited to tell us that her team just received 2 additional grants totalling $1.2 million dollars to continue the work of her research team. This brings the total amount of grants received to $2.8 million dollars. Basically, for every $1 dollar Team Olney has raised and donated, the matching grants average $13 dollars. Youe donations and generosity go a LONG way to help find cures for these horrible diseases.
Thank you for supporting this important fight. In Acts 20:35 it is written:
"In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: "It is more blessed to give than to receive.""
Blessings to all of you from Team Olney......

Good afternoon, It is 3 weeks since we launched the fundraising to support the 2020 Wilmot Cancer Institute Warrior Walk. It will be held virtually on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13 of 2020. A “Virtual” event means that you can walk anywhere any time and if you chose and you can make a donation to Team Olney any time.
It is easy to make a donation or to join Team Olney. As of July 17, Team Olney has raised $10,650 to help fund the work of Drs. Calvi, Becker and Liesveld to find cures for Leukemia and Lymphoma. Many thanks to all of you who have already made a donation to the Warrior Walk. Team Olney has donated over $160,000 over the years and there is at least 1 drug that is in a clinical trial as a result of this investment. We re hoping to donate at least an additional $15,000 for this important work.
If you could send me a picture of you and anyone else who may walk with you, I can get it loaded into the Wilmot Cancer Institute website to show your participation in the event. Bev and I will be wearing last year’s T shirts. Thank you for considering donating to the important research.
Anything can happen if you put your mind to it…such as bungy jumping on my 50th birthday in New Zealand!!!!
The Bible tells us:
2 Corinthians 9:11-13 “You will be enriched in every way for all generosity, which produces thanksgiving to God through us. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many acts of thanksgiving to God. They will glorify God for your obedience to the confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with others through the proof provided by this service.”
God Bless all of you for your generosity and willingness to help others battle this horrible disease…Team Olney.

As we reflect back on the 2019 Warrior Walk, we realize how truly blessed we are to be surrounded by so many loving and caring family and friends. Over 300 individuals donated $26,150 to Team Olney. Team Olney won the team fundraising award, I won the individual fundraising award, and was honored to win the Wilmot Warrior Award.
Team Olney is proud to join the fight against cancer again this year. Each year, thousands are diagnosed with cancer. I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in July of 2011. Statistically, acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients have a 28% chance of surviving 5 years. Many of you have followed my journey as I have fought this awful disease. I was given a 50% chance of surviving the first stem cell transplant in November of 2011. After falling out of remission in March of 2014, I was given less than a 17% chance of surviving the second stem cell transplant. July 2020 will mark 9 years since the original diagnosis.
In addition to fighting the leukemia, I have survived the significant side effects caused by the treatment. The most serious being a major heart attack due to a pulmonary embolism, severe graft versus host disease, 2 muscle diseases which attacked and destroyed 70% of muscle mass and at least 20 other significant side effects requiring hospitalization and treatment.
The Doctors, nurses and researchers are extensions of God’s good work. Those who work on cancer cures cannot do their work without our financial support. Team Olney has committed to raising $10,000 to continue support of the cancer research which was started with our original gift to the Wilmot Cancer Institute almost 7 years ago. The results are promising, but much more needs to be done.
2020 has been a very unusual and unsettling year in a lot of ways. Cancer did not stop because of COVID-19. The UR Medical Center lost significant revenue and profits due to the Impact of the virus. Fundraising for cancer research and development is needed more than ever. Money raised in previous fundraisers plus gifts given to the cancer center from generous people like you provided treatment plans that helped save my life. I would not be alive today had it not been for that research and development activity. The odds against survival were somewhat daunting.
Proceeds from this fundraising effort will be added to funds already raised to support cancer research efforts at Wilmot Cancer Institute led by Drs. Calvi, Becker, Liesveld and their teams. We will send an update of the impact our fundraising has had as soon as we receive it. Please show your support by joining me and my family at the 2020 Virtual Wilmot Warrior Walk or by giving a donation today!
We set another significant goal of raising $10,000, not because it was easy to achieve, but because these funds are necessary to find targeted cures to prevent the significant side effects that usually occur with today's treatment plans. To date, we have had individuals pledge over $6,000 to our team. Please help us help those that will be affected by cancer in the future. God Bless all of you who chose to help....Team Olney
The Bible has a lot to say about generosity as a desirable character trait. Proverbs 22:9 says, “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” God is generous, and He expects us to follow His example. God’s generosity is evidenced all around us.
You too can make a difference in someone's life!!!
