Mia was born with severe hydrocephalus and VATER Syndrome. The doctors gave her a less than 50% chance of surviving the pregnancy. If she did survive the pregnancy, the doctors gave her the same grim chance of leaving the hospital. Mia's future was extremely uncertain to say the least!
With the help of many prayers and the amazing Golisano Hospital, Mia has defied all odds. She is a beautiful, young girl with abilities to play Challenger Baseball and compete in the Empire Games for the Physically Challenged. She has had nine surgeries so far and continues to follow her medical team at Golisano on a regular basis.
In 2015, Mia had a 13 hour surgery and a two month stay at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Our goal is to help support Golisano Hospital in its efforts to continually improve so that all kids can remain local, with their families, for specialized surgeries and treatments.
Many of you know the new Golisano Hospital opened in 2015 but not all the floors are completed. Last year, we agreed to raise $50,000.00 over the next five years. Mia's Marchers will be sponsoring a “surgical consult room”. This room was designed for important conversations with families prior to and/or following surgery. The room is on the fourth floor and is 10’X10’ in size. Having used surgical consult rooms for each of Mia’s nine surgeries, we loved the idea of this sponsorship. After Mia’s 13 hour surgery last year, the consult room has a much deeper meaning to us than ever before.
We are thankful for all who have contributed to our team goal!!
