Welcome to my page!
I am proud to join my daughter in the fight against cancer again this year. This is our story;
April 7th, 2014 my daughter Kailee, was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the tongue. At first the cancer appeared as a small "canker sore". It's growth led us to an oral surgeon for a biopsy. Hearing the diagnosis and seeing the frightened look on my daughters face will forever be etched in my mind.
We were sent to the Wilmot Cancer Center. I vividly remember walking down the hall and around the corner… letters seemingly as big as me, "Wilmot Cancer Center". This was for real, it was happening, I wanted to scream. I held my daughters hand. If I could have picked her up and cradled her, I would have. I needed to dig down deep and find my strength for her. Little did I know, she was doing the same for me.
5 days in the hospital and many months of therapy, my daughter found strength she didn't know she had (truthfully, so did I). She battled the inner demons that crept in. She learned how to talk, eat, drink and use a straw with her "new" tongue. She demonstrated such strength and determination. I'm so very proud of her!
When we learned of the Wilmot Warrior Walk I immediately said, "let's do it"! I wanted to be involved in my daughters recovery in every way possible. I wanted her to be surrounded by people with similar struggles as well as stoic recoveries so she didn't feel isolated. Plus, my mother recovered from cancer a year earlier so it only made sense we do it.
Kailee named our team The Monarchs. She relates the life changing transformation the monarch butterflies go through as the stages of cancer with a heavy concentration on the beautiful outcome!
We LOVE The Warrior Walk because it represents the hardship we have over come. The Warrior Walk celebrates our strength, our courage, our love, and our heartfelt understanding of others who at some point, were given the same news.
I'm thankful for The Worrior Walk. It's a place where people come together, share their story and celebrate survivorship. This event is inspiering and an amazing experience.
I will greatly appreciate your support. You can help by joining our team, The Monarchs, or by giving a donation. By coming together, the community can make a difference for all those cancer impacts.
