Come join our team at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday, June 1st, for the 23rd annual Stroll for Strong Kids Walk and 5K Run! Can't make it to Rochester? Consider donating to the NICU through our team page, so that Golisano Children's Hospital can continue providing amazing care to the babies and families that walk through their doors.
Being thrown into parenthood 3 months early is never easy, but the support given to us by the doctors, nurses, and staff in the Strong NICU was such a blessing to us. They never hesitated to answer our questions, involve us in the girls' care, support our pumping/breastfeeding journey, and care for our girls like they were part of their own families. While nothing can prepare you to become the parent of a preemie (let alone 2), the care we all received at Strong far outweighed the stress and has left such a positive impact on our life.
The girls were born at 28 weeks, after I had spent 5 weeks on bedrest at Strong. Madeleine weighed 2 lbs 11 oz. and Hannah weighed 2 lbs 4 oz. The NICU became our home away from home for nearly 3 months, before they were finally able to come home.
It's so hard to believe our giant four year olds were ever tiny little 28 weekers and we owe so much of that to the amazing care they received at Strong. This will be our third year participating and we're looking forward to many more! While nothing we say or do will ever be able to fully express our gratitude to Strong and the NICU, we hope that participating in events like these will help Strong be able to continue their legacy of caring for children and their families.
